An Introduction to the Church of Christ

You and your family are invited to worship with us at the Amarillo Church of Christ at 409 N. Carolina St. In an effort to present you with more information about the congregation and its practices, we have prepared this section of our site for you. We request that you take just a few moments to read the information here.

Singing

I Cor. 14:15 and Col. 3:16 both give instruction to Christians regarding singing. We sing to our Lord in each and every service, without the aid of mechanical instruments. The singing is congregational, and all are encouraged to join in during the song service. You are sure to be uplifted by the singing!

Prayer

I Cor. 14:15 also deals with the practice of prayer. Prayer is a great blessing of God, and we practice this during each service. The prayer is led by one man with the rest of the congregation following silently along. We thank God for His blessings, pray for the sick and others who may need our prayers, ask for the forgiveness of sins, and request God's help in our daily lives.

Teaching

In Acts 2:42, we find that the early Church continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctine. Teaching was obviously a very important part of worship in the New Testament Church. We believe that all scripture is inspired (II Tim. 3:16-17) and that it guides us in all areas of life (II Pet. 1:3). Capable men exhort the congregation each time we meet, teaching the Bible and the Bible only. We are not interested in the doctrines of any denomination or individual man. Our belief and practice is to simply seek out God's will through a thorough study of the Bible.

Communion

I Cor. 11:20-34 deals with the communion service. Acts 20:7 also tells us that the early Church met on the first day of the week to partake of the communion. We continue this today. Remembering our Lord through the communion service on the first day of the week is God's will for all Christians. The Communion service is open to any who wish to participate.

Giving

Finally, in I Cor. 16:1-2, the Bible instructs us on giving. We encourage everyone to give of their means. However, we will never solicit anyone. We believe that it is the Christian's duty to cheerfully give back a portion of the blessings that God has so freely given to us.
